System 6.0.7 or higher, 5Mb free RAM, color monitor 13" or larger,
040 Mac or faster with System 7.1 recommended.
Here's what you've won:
You're enjoying a flavorful orange sucker when it slips from your hand and lands in the dirt. Well if you can't have it, no one can...especially ants! So you try to keep the ants from getting your sucker by burning them with your trusty magnifying glass. Click your mouse button while targeting an ant with the cursor. If you're successful, the ant will burst into flames. Sick, I know, but this is far more humane than burning real ants.
Each level gets more hectic as the ants dodge your solar beam and take cover under bottle caps...that you can drag...exposing the voracious critters to your relentless torture.
"Ants Afire!" is an arcade-style game that features color graphics, frantic gameplay, and all you'd expect from a quality counter-productivity tool.
You get all this and more:
• Magnifying glass that follows the movements
of a custom, cross-hair cursor.
• Frantic ant behavior.
• Cool "burning ant" animation.
• Great sound effects.
• Score keeping/top-ten highest score tracking.
• Beat the internal clock and get extra points.
• It's FREE! FREE! FREE!
==== Update History =====
Changes from version 1.1 to 1.2
• Game now starts and ends at High Scores panel. Now you
can see the scores to beat...before you start.
• Added music to High Scores and Intro-splash screen.
• New terrain art. Same old bottles and brick but new
slightly different viewing angle and a "Poison" label
on one of the bottles, featuring a skull and crossed bones.
• Removed "Start" and "Help" buttons from the scoreboard.
Help button now appears underneath High Scores. As with
previous versions, Press any key to release the ants during
play (I like to press the space bar).
• Yet another "screaming-burning ant" sound.
• More difficult...ants increase speed a little faster
and sooner than before. (I may seem to change this
a lot, but game pacing is very important, and I think this
new version plays best.)
• Ant distribution is more random and they’ll come
from all directions (not bunch-up for easy kills).
• Various code improvements to eliminate a few minor bugs
and allow for smoother motion.
****** Changes from version 1.1 to 1.2 Ants Afire!™ Pro *******
• All of the above
(See help screen for information on how to order Ants Afire!™ Pro.)
Changes from version 1.0 to 1.1
• New “screaming ant” sound.
• Better, more natural ant motion.
• Ants now gradually become brave and take risks.
• More gradual (linear instead of geometric) increase of
ant speed with each level, for longer play and higher scores.
• Kinder placement of random ants. No longer places them
near sucker at start of level.
• No longer possible to drag bottle caps off screen.
This was a problem with monitors larger than 13".
• No longer reports “Out of range error” when various
non-game items are clicked on.
• No longer tries to create ants (and fail) when
a key is pressed during non-game screens.
****** Changes from version 1.0 to 1.1 Ants Afire!™ Pro *******
• All of the above
• Preferences page to set volume level, ant bravery,
ant speed, number of ants (1 to 10), sucker magnetism. etc.
• Edit frequency of random roaches, bees, flies
• New customizeable “Scene” files.
==== The High Scores File ====
Ants Afire!™ comes with a high scores file that you can edit in any text editor.
If you are updating from a previous version of Ants Afire!™ you can keep your old high scores file. Just replace the new file with your old file.
The format of the high scores file is as follows:
(no spaces, returns or characters of any kind before first entry)
Name<return> (Any character may appear in Name)
Score<return> (Must be an integer)
Name<return>
Score<return>
Name<return>
Score<return>
(etc. until you have exactly 10 name/score pairs. If this was the tenth entry, don't forget to give the last score a return, just like all the others.)
Keep the high scores file in the same folder as "Ants Afire!™"...so it can find it. If you lose or misplace the high scores file, a new one will be created automatically.
